• I have many journals that sit on the shelf at home. They chronicle many aspects of my life. I love to look through them, enjoying the things I have written or the pictures there in. It is my hope that as you look through these pages, that you too will enjoy the things placed so lovingly here.
It has been a journey that has seen me through many joys and a few heartaches. From the start of Crimson Chickadee and my growth as a person and as a photographer. From the realization that how many fans I have on my facebook page does not merit my worth, to the swelling in my heart as I hit publish to a post that I know will mean so much to the intended recipient.
I hope you join me often, with a good cup of coffee, and enjoy these pages as much as I do creating them.

DAY 9: DECORATION

Last night as I walked around the house deciding what decoration to take for my post this morning I was at a loss. Everything I thought of or took was so much like the rest of my images. I wanted something different for today. I left it, hoping this morning I would have a moment of brilliance and think of something different. It didn’t happen. So I sat down on the couch with Dolly to watch a little Tinkerbell. While we were sitting there Baby Sparrow and Flea Cat ( a rescue who had fleas when we found her…Dolly named her. We have tried to change her name but Dolly likes it. So Flea Cat she remains.) were playing with a piece of garland on the floor. I grabbed my camera and snapped a quick picture of Baby Sparrow. I liked it. This is the state of a lot of the decorations here with a kitten in the house!

Here is my image for today, Baby Sparrow playing with a piece of gold tinsel garland.

Today as you take your image of a decoration I encourage you to try and think outside the box. We all can take an image of a decoration hanging on the tree or the Santa on the table. Part of taking an image everyday does build your arsenal of photography skills so I encourage you to push yourself to take something not so ordinary.

December 6, 2011

Here we are at the close of our first week. I hope you are all being diligent with your picture taking. If you are doing a December Daily Album it really makes it so much less work to take a little time every evening to do that day’s page than it is to sit down a document a bunch of pages. I am finding that to make my album page it is taking me about 45 minutes every night. That includes writing my blog post for CCP and Rusted Ruffle. It is enjoyable to sit when the house is quiet and journal the day.
My blog post today will be a short one. Grandma is here for a sleepover…for a few days. Us three girlies are having one big pajama party while papa is away for work. In fact we are crafting the 12 days of Christmas! We have already had many laughs and I am looking forward to the next few days.
DAY 6: LOVE
There is a reason I chose to put love down for the assignment today. December sixth will always be a reminder of love for me, you see, it my parents anniversary. Today marks year 37 for them.
I did cheat a little for today’s image. I knew that Dad was away for work this week, so while we were building Dolly’s skating rink I took this picture of the two of them together. This is a sight I have seen countless times in my life. They go for a walk every evening and often they do so holding hands. It reminds me of the vast love they have for each other.

Today your assignment is love. Love is all around us. I thought of it yesterday while Dolly was putting some money in the Salvation Army’s Red box. Taking a picture of love should be easy. To love someone is to give of yourself, and during this time of the year we are reminded to give a little more than we do at other times of the year.
Your picture of love can be two people in love, like my mine. It can be your family members and those you love. It could be an image of someone giving of themselves, like Dolly while she put her toonie in the box yesterday, or if you are in a larger center and you have a soup kitchen or someplace where you volunteer. Perhaps your child with a pet they love, or if they have a blankie or a stuffie they have with them at all times.
I will see you here tomorrow with a long post on taking images of lights….but for now I am off to get crafty!

December 4 & 5, 2011

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Ours was spent with Grandma and Grandpa. Last week Dolly watched pairs skating on TV and was hooked. She called Papa and asked him to build her a skating rink…so we did. Or started it anyways, which means I currently have 4 garden hoses and a sprinkler rolled up in my entryway! Hopefully by the end of the week she can be putting on skates and giving it a whirl.

My album pages over the weekend are mostly journal bits about our time spent together. As well for day four I put Dolly’s hand print, since she is 4.

DAY 4: SEASON

When I think of season I think of Winter, and to me winter means snow. I had planned on getting a snow image with my horses all cozy in their straw but when I saw Dolly making a snow angel I knew that was much better.I quickly snapped a picture of her laughing as she did. It is not perfect but neither is life. It shows the joy of the moment, and I remind myself that is much more import than a perfect picture. I hope that you were able to capture something from the season as well. Season could be something from Christmas, Winter or even this time of your life. Whatever you choose will be perscet, as Dolly would say!

DAY 5: GLISTENING

One of my favourite things about this time of the year is that we can incorporate glitter into our daily decor. LOTS of glitter! I have said it before and I will say it again now, I love light. My eyes soak it in like it is a sweet nothing being whispered in my ear, and glistening glitter makes my heart flutter. I have  Be Merry, covered in glitter hanging from a frame above my couch. It is minimal but the message has great impact. When I walk by and see the glistening words and feel the stirring in my soul, I am reminded to Be Merry during this busy time. So today I am giving you my Be Merry. Not as a close up of the glitter that shimmers and glistens, but as a message to Be Merry yourself, so that those around you see you as a glistening soul in a busy time of year.

Glistening can be anything that shimmers. You no doubt have lots of Christmas decor that glistens. It could be glitter like mine, or the shimmering lights of your tree. It could also be the sparkle in your children’s eyes as they day dream about what is in the presents under the tree. So today as you go on your way, Be Merry, and capture an image that glistens so much it makes your heart flutter.

The W Family | Mannville Family Photographer

Okay I’ll admit it…I like it inside when the air is chilly. Yes, I am a wimp. After a day of being outside shooting I was anxious to round up all my props, light a fire and cozy up for an evening of relaxation. I do however, have this crazy obsession with backing up my files as soon as I shoot them, so while my fire was  warming the air in the other room I settled in my office to load and backup all of my files from the day. As I was waiting I started browsing through the W family’s images. Up popped a screen to tell me my download had finished…I quickly dismissed it. I was so in love with the images I was looking at I was giddy. (any of my clients can verify that I do in fact let out a little excited EEK! when I like an image I see on the back of my camera!)

Momma W I wish I could show you more but unfortunately I can’t…so here are your sneak peeks…ones that as a mother tug at my heart strings. Enjoy!

Imagine meeting a couple so full of love that you could feel it all around you, in the air you breathe, the world you see…pulling you in and filling you with the power of that love.

That is E & D! I felt like I was on a love high after they left their session. I cannot wait for their wedding! They are so in love…and they “fit” each other perfect!

Thanks for making the drive down to the studio E&D. It was so fun to spend your session with you.

p.s. ….give Mabel some kisses from me!
