Well hello there!
(If you are a Star Wars fan you will recognize that phrase! And yes I am a Star Wars fan…)
My name is Nicole and I started this company in September 2006. I often get asked about Crimson Chickadee Photography…different things about it and how I came up with the name. I will just fill you all in a wee bit so you don’t have to ask. Sometimes in life we go through things that make us better and stronger people. It was during one of those times that I took a strong liking to the color red, not because I like red, but because of all it symbolizes. Did you know that in heraldry, red is used to indicate courage. Red is also associated with energy, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love.
Okay, okay, I know you want to know about the chickadee…well it is my favorite bird. Their song reminds me of my grandpa. He would always mimic the chickadee song “springs here”. Thinking about that makes me smile! So there you go…the beginnings of a company as I sat by the fire over a cup of hot chocolate…deep in thought and watching the chickadees out the window! Now about me…
I love photography! I have my whole life. I can remember when I was in junior high and all the girls would buy the SEVENTEEN magazine. They would all talk about what was in it…you know all the hot news. Haha I was faithful to buy every monthly issue…but I liked to look at the pictures. I don’t know if I ever read an issue! I got my first camera when I was in grade 9…it was pink. I was so excited at the thought of getting it for Christmas that along with two of my friends I carefully cut the tape and unwrapped it. I can’t believe my mom never figured it out! I screamed with excitement just as much on Christmas morning as I did when I had so sneakily unwrapped it!
I am a horse lover. I wanted to be a horse when I was little. I used to pretend I was the black stallion for hours. Funny I never realized that he was a he??? I ride dressage. I enjoy it so much because it is technical.
I play the piano. I loved honor band and played the clarinet and the flute. I would love to learn how to play the cello.
I love the rain. Some people find the rain dreary…I never do. Whenever it rains I want to run out in it and swirl around like they do in the movies…but I hate being cold so I never would!!
I love the colors black and grey. I find them classic.
I love to read.
I love heraldry, and anything medieval. I think Russian history is fascinating. Catherine the great is someone I could spend hours reading about.
I have one ear that is elfin. In my other life I am sure that I was an elfin princess…and if you know me personally you will put that connection to my e-mail address;)
I am shy when I first meet people…but not for long! haha
I have three kids. I call them raceboy83, raceboy82 and dolly(or miss a) here on the blog. The boys race dirt bikes. That has been a major part of our lives since they were 4. I remember when raceboy83 was 6 we raced EVERY weekend from the end of April until the last weekend in October. It is crazy but they have been very privileged to race all over Canada and the USA.
I have one sibling. My little brother Mark. He is an amazing musician. You can learn more about him HERE.
I have never moved farther than 20 minutes away from my parents home. I love them! They are a driving force behind Crimson Chickadee.
I love to garden…correction…to play in the dirt!
I am excited to get to know all of you!
