The Chair

Sometimes as a parent you witness things your children do and you shake your head and wonder.  I had one of those experiences today.  I stood peeking around the corner watching Miss A trying her hardest to sit on a chair.  Now if it was a normal chair I could understand but the chair in question here is a barbie chair.
The Chair….

Her sitting on the chair….

It is a good thing she is cute! And just to clarify that point…here is one of Miss A making cookies with mommy. The look in her eyes kills me! :)

What are we teaching

I have a had long weekend…the last time I left you I was off to be a hockey mom.  I grumble and moan about going to the rink and sitting in the cold but I do enjoy watching my boys play.  I sit in the stands and like every parent out there I cheer the team on.  I never thought much about the comments like “hit him”  or “use your body” very much.  Or how about, “get his number!” Hockey is a contact sport and who doesn’t sit a little closer to the edge of their seat when a hockey fight breaks out.

This is not a post for me to rant and rave against the violence in sports.  It is however a post for me to ask you to be mindful of what we teach.  The second period was almost over, as I sat  watching the game and talking to the mom sitting next to me when Raceboy83 got hit from behind and drove headfirst into the boards.  As he laid  on the ice I was calm.  It was when he didn’t get up when his dad got there that I began to worry.  He never did get up, he was put on a backboard and we went for a ride in the ambulance.  He was as calm as could be and reassured me with comments like ” Mom this is not our first ambulance ride. Don’t worry” or “hey mom remember when I knocked myself out cold at Red Deer? Haha that was funny!”  ( it wasn’t…he over shot a jump at an arena cross race and knocked himself silly into the next week!) I think he was trying to make himself feel better, I could see the fear in his eyes.  He is a tough kid and I knew he would be okay.  He remained on the backboard for close to 2 hours before they unstrapped him and let him get up.  He has missed school today and is sleeping in mom’s bed.  He has a headache and his neck still really hurts.  I am so thankful that he is not on his way to being in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.  I am not thankful however for what I heard after the game.

When raceboy83’s dad was walking past the other team on his way to raceboy83 he got to watch them all high fiving and laughing and joking.  Are you kidding me?!?!  Where are the responsible adult coaches saying “hey guys have some respect” or how about ” A 12 year old just went off the ice on a backboard with neck injuries…that is not funny or something to be proud of”. I know that the little boy that hit him probably didn’t mean to hurt him and I am glad he didn’t.  I just want all of us adults to remember that every situation is a teachable moment.  I hope we all use them to our biggest advantage.  So as you take your kids to the rink this week I ask that you use the ride there as one of those moments and have a talk about this situation.  And please remind you kids the number on the back of a jersey is as good as a stop sign.  I hope none of you ever take that ride.

update

As we get closer to the holiday season I thought I should let you all know what is happening around here.  I am completely booked until 2009.  If you have a maternity or newborn that you would like to have done in that time I always leave spots open for you. Make sure you contact me immediately so I can fit you in.  Also I am finished with my Christmas card orders as I have reached my printers cut-off.  If you missed it and want to get in next year remember to book early.  I start my holiday sessions as early as September.  Keep an eye on the blog as I will be posting reminders over the summer. ( It seems so strange to be talking about next Christmas!!)

I also have limited bookings left for my 2009 weddings.  These spots are filling quickly so be sure to talk to me right away if you are looking at using Crimson Chickadee for your photographer.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.  I am off to be a hockey mom for the rest of the day. ;)

boys will be boys

Today I got to have a play date with these two darling little boys.  Big brother and I were very busy hiding from wild tigers and hungry dinosaurs.  It is hard not to laugh when such a cutie is trying so hard to be ferocious!

Isn’t it typical of kids to do just the opposite of what you want. Little brother was happily sleeping until he was taken out of his carseat…then try as hard as they could mom and dad could not convince this little munchkin that he wanted to go back to sleep. He was still adorable!!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Miss A and I took a break and went for a walk in the snow today. It was so much fun to see her running and hollering at the top of her lungs. She loves it outside and she laughed and laughed at the tracks she was leaving behind her. Hope you are enjoying this weather…it is about time it started to look winter like!

Why was tigger looking in the toilet??

He was looking for pooh!…told to me by this darling 4 year old.

And this is his darling little sister…

And my favorite from the session…

Big brother

I walked into the studio to find these two bonding. Raceboy83 is taking the wrapping off of Miss A’s candycane. Not a technically correct picture that is for sure…but one that tugs at my heartstrings.

It’s a dog’s life…

For these two it is. This is Sebastien. What you can’t see is that he decided he was scared of the scarf and ran away from me right after I took this picture!

This is Abbey. She is just relaxing wondering why everyone gets so stressed over the holidays.

Guess who’s coming for Christmas…

it’s a suprise! Until this little package gets opened you can enjoy the wrapping!

Mr. B

Okay this little guy was such a little sweetheart!  He was so well behaved! Here are afew from his session.
